Workshop "Current Trends in Copyright Protection" organized by "BelBrand" Association was held at the Minsk Regional Institute for Education Development In one's life, every creative person faces the need to protect his/her creations. It may only seem at first sight that the main thing is to come up and do (write, perform, etc.). Then, comes the recognizing that it is equally important to make something invented the public wealth. To avoid the author's disappointments and losses at the stage of socialization and commercialization of the creation, the "BelBrand" Association recommends turning to professionals in intellectual property protection; and the Association is actively engaged in the educational work.
In the course of the workshop held at the Minsk Regional Institute for Education Development, Valentin RACHKOVSKIY, the Managing Partner of the "BelBrand Consult" Intellectual Property Protection Agency, explained in detail the current trends in copyright protection With account of the interests of the target audience, Mr Rachkovskiy paid special attention to protection of textbooks, scientific papers and teaching methodologies against an unauthorized copying, publication and dissemination on paper and electronic carriers in the process of educational, scientific-researching, publishing and commercial activities During the workshop, its participants received answers to their questions. There is no doubt that it will improve the quality of authors' research and teaching efforts. As a result, the society will acquire the works capable of enriching the intellectual potential of the nation, and not become subjects of litigations Main Ideas In the sphere of copyright protection, the Republic of Belarus is a part of the civilized world, since nowadays both the national and international legislation provides for the mechanisms for the copyright protection It is well-known that by virtue of international treaties, all the works created in our country automatically receive protection abroad, as well as those, created by foreign citizens, receive protection in Belarus. This is the basic principle of the copyright. The Copyright is a sphere of the private law; the main provisions thereof are set out mainly in the Civil Code. And one should understand that the copyright protection in fact depends on one's own vigilance. One of the complex issue is in creativity criteria. It should be noted that nowadays the court treats creativity through vocabulary sources (in particular, dictionaries and vocabularies, where creativity is defined as transformation of reality). Similar statements may be also found in judicial decisions. As a rule, in disputable situations, an examination is appointed, which cannot be objective, since the author's work and the role of the author in transforming the reality is evaluated by other authors, who performing the role of experts.
